after Ted is done collecting for the charity, he is going to modify the account and have the "pay abbys speeding ticket" charity set up.
he had ot be listening on the CB,knowing we were behind, after seeing you go by, figured we wouldnt be long, his lights were on and he was pointing her to pull over as soon as we crested that little hill he was on.

Nah they don't monitor channel 25. But I bet he was just waiting to pick off the last car in the line. Next time the officers on the trip will have to run sweeper -mike

I'll even run decoy if we're chipping in to cover tickets and we're in a state that doesn't reciprocate points with PA. (On the bikes, way back in the day when we were right out of high school and some guys didn't have insurance, the guy with insurance would block the street and let himself get pulled over while the others scrambled.) I'm sure the local PD would be a little flustered that they let 30+ cars go by only to pull over a fellow officer on a charity run. If we make the route a little more relaxed, though, and get in and out of rest/fuel stops quicker so that we're not rushing to our meal reservations, we shouldn't run much risk of speeding tickets.

his lights were on and he was pointing her to pull over as soon as we crested that little hill he was on. sounds like he got her on laser before she slowed down. he was on a hill thus could see way down the road. i think laser is good for up to 1/3-1/2 mile, maybe further...

I didn't see the window open. Laser requires that there be no glass between the unit and the offender. -mike

I recall seeing that cop with the window down and the 'devise' (laser/radar?) being used.

Must have put it out after we went by. He had regular radar going when we rolled by.

1. i don't know if there is a better way from the pine barrens to cooperstown, but the GWB portion of the trip was definitely not fun.
2. i love jeff's idea of having an "off-road" excursion every day. i got super muddy on my way from northville to wappingers falls on sunday.
3. if it's possible to have locals scout certain areas for gas stops, we can plan to split up to 2-3 gas stations at a time. i also liked having the pull-off area to re-group. that's probably asking too much, but where we stopped at stewart's before the scenic overlook on saturday, there was a mobil right around the corner with no business.
4. i agree with the CB being mandatory. it was very helpful, but i'm not sure how you enforce it more than just saying it's mandatory ahead of time as you already did. you don't want to turn people with donations away.
to everyone, thanks again for a great trip!

as soon as the driver regs for the run we should have the 48hrs cards for the start of the donations.
so when i ask for donations i can pass the card to them and they can see for them self if not no gimmick..

Just adding to the consensus, but we definitely need to split into groups. One thing I believe was thrown out there was have the groups start 15 minutes apart. This way we are still within radio/cell range yet we can't "flood" any gas stops. -Also for gas stops, since a lot of people have GPS now can we pick a spot with at least 2 stations nearby to ease the congestion?
One other thing: We should all know how to drive in a convoy. If the leader decides to go left, it should be the job of the back door to get into the left lane and hold traffic back enough for everyone else to get in front. Also when we come to a group stop, don't park on the persons bumper in front of you - give yourself a foot or two of space to be able to pull out if needed.
Otherwise I think you guys have it down pretty pat. Hotels, and food worked out well once again (the prepaid dinner worked well for budgets). I think someone suggested some sort of a "pre-paid package" for the whole trip (main dinner, lodgings, t-shirt). I can see that working for a lot of people, provided the logistics can be worked out.
Keep up the great work, and yell if you need any help for next years drive.

as far as hotels go in the "package": we have tossed that idea, too much liability for us to accept. right now the package is looking like it will be for dinner, shirt, sign rental and will include free raffle tix for the drivers.
mike and i are tinking about the route and maybe even doing a predrive of it this year. all gas stops can and will be worked out this year.

... and maybe even doing a predrive of it this year. Good idea, might allow for 'group stop' areas to be marked on a GPS and even 'do not stop here' markers. Ian

Yup, I am also talking to the Holiday Inn about having a room for registration on Thurs Night and Friday morning. This will allow us to do a similar reg as we have at track days where you can come, reg and pickup your "packet" of stuff.
Predrive will be done this year with specific bathroom and gas station stops.
