So how is everyone doing on prep and so forth? I finished prep last night on the car and only need to pack my travel tools. I'm bringing pretty much anything to fix trouble on the road.

Started loading some stuff into the car yesterday; charging the portable jump start; packed the tow gear; and put a fresh Rain-X coating on the windshield and topped off the washer fluid. That reminds me- I need to pick up an extra container. I would get the Rain-X one, but they probably should not be mixed so it'll be the "normal" one.

I just put a new Optima red-top battery in the Forester (dayum those things are expensive). My old battery (the original Subie battery - 94k miles on the car) was having a little trouble cranking this morning at 27 degrees, so I figured it wouldn't be much good at -3 degrees in Burlington. I picked up two gallons of the orange Rain-X windshield fluid, but I also don't want to mix fluids, so I'll wait until the blue stuff runs out before I put the new stuff in.
Tomorrow, I have to get the CEL checked, and then it's time to start packing. I'm still deciding whether or not to mount the top box. I guess I'll see if I need it once I start packing, and depending on whether or not I'll have any passengers for the trip.
See ya's soon!

I just put a new Optima red-top battery in the Forester (dayum those things are expensive). I hear that...picked up the NAPA equivalent and it wasn't cheap either BUT I did manage to get 6 years out of the stocker before it crapped out.

I was surprised to find a Subaru battery in my 2001 Forester with over 94k miles on it! Not 100% sure it was the ORIGINAL battery, though; the previous owner may have just had the dealership replace it. The core charge is only like $12, so I might just hold onto the other battery for now, just in case.

I got my CB mounted (actully semi-nicely mounted) and got 1 radio-check from someone with it. So that is finnally taken care of, though I think i'll still do a few random checks tomorrow/thursday.
Starting my 'don't forget it' list.
Bought my new winter wiper blades, install those tomorrow. Rain-x windows and all at Rob's on sunday. Rear defroster got tested this mornining after fixing some breaks in the lines - all but 2 lines worked, that better then ONLY 2 working before. Washer fluid is topped but I've had that rain-x stuff 'stain' the paint on my saab so I don't use that.
Got my laundry done tonight so I just need to pack, which I can do tomorrow. Full-size spare needs to get checked and thrown in the back and some re-arrangement of tools.
